When the sun reaches its highest point in the sky and the day stretches longer than any other, the Summer Solstice arrives. In the Northern Hemisphere, this happens around June 21st, marking not just the astronomical start of summer, but also one of the most sacred moments of the year in many ancient cultures.
At Molino del Zegri Eco Yoga Retreat, we feel this date as an open gateway: an invitation to connect with nature, with our inner fire, and with the expansive energy of the light.
An Ancient Celebration of Life
Since ancient times, humans have honored the sun. For the Celts, the solstice marked the peak of the solar cycle, celebrated during Litha with bonfires, songs, dances, and fertility rituals. It was a time to give thanks for the harvest, ask for protection, and honor the union between sky and earth.
In Northern Europe, large fires are still lit to represent the power of the sun, while in other parts of the world people perform ritual baths, gather healing herbs, or meditate at sunrise.
The Egyptians aligned temples like Karnak with the solstice sun. For the Mayans, this moment marked a deep connection to cosmic cycles. In every culture, the message was clear: light is life, and it must be honored.
A Time to Ignite Your Inner Fire
Beyond solar symbolism, the Summer Solstice invites us to look within. Just as the sun shines at full strength, we too can ask ourselves:
Where is my light? What do I want to grow this summer? What do I need to release to expand fully?
This is the perfect time to:
- Meditate at sunrise or sunset
- Write your intentions for the new season
- Give thanks for everything you’ve cultivated since spring
- Let go—burning old fears, beliefs, or habits with symbolic fire
- Ground yourself barefoot on the earth, receiving its warmth and support
A Spiritual Season of Abundance
Summer brings an energy of abundance, creativity, and openness. Long days invite us to move, to share, to laugh, and to create. It’s the season of the solar plexus chakra (manipura), connected to willpower, vitality, and personal strength.
It’s a time for conscious action—to step into your purpose, not with pressure, but with joy.
At Molino del Zegri, we celebrate this season with fire rituals, energizing yoga, mindful walks and deep nature immersion. We believe that when we align our practices with nature’s rhythms, everything flows with more clarity and peace.
How to Celebrate Wherever You Are
If you can’t join our retreat, here are simple ways to honor the Solstice on your own:
- Create a sun altar with yellow flowers, candles, citrine or sunstone, and something symbolic of your intentions.
- Write down what you wish to release, then burn it safely in gratitude.
- Walk in silence at dawn or dusk, fully present with your surroundings.
- Prepare a “sun meal” with colorful, seasonal fruits and veggies—honor every bite.
- Celebrate with your community—dance, laugh, create together. Summer is about joyful connection.
Summer Solstice at Molino del Zegri
This year, we welcome the energy of the solstice with conscious practices, silence, fire, music, and nature. Because returning to the rhythms of the Earth is, in essence, a return to ourselves.
The sun reminds us that each day is a new chance to be reborn. On this June 21st, give yourself a moment to feel it.
